Kristin Almquist has over 15 years of experience as a Clinical Social Worker with a strong focus on child development, trauma awareness, growth mindset, cross-cultural and racial awareness and inequities. Kristin believes that there is great transformational and healing power in positive child-adult connections.
Kristin specializes in working with children ages three to 12 who have experienced Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Attention-Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, separation and divorce issues, childhood dysregulation issues, and disruptions in attachment. Kristin uses an individualized mix of therapeutic modalities to meet each child’s specific needs which include; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child-Centered Directive and Non-Directive Play Therapies, Solution-Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy. Additionally, she incorporates therapeutic art, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills and body-based regulatory skills into her practice.
Concurrently, Kristin provides developmental and psycho-education for parents/caregivers and collaborates with them to build on existing skills and competencies as well as to challenge and expand their constructs of their children. Kristin includes families and caregivers as part of her therapeutic approach because she believes that increasing understanding, positive connections and trust within families can be transformational and create lasting, positive relational change.
