New Providers to Enhance Your Wellness! Meet Laura, Our New Child & Family Therapist!
Laura Legand
MSW, LGSW (She/Her/Hers)
Licensed Graduate Social Worker
Laura earned her Masters of Social Work (MSW) from Capella University in 2024 and is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) working toward independent licensure (LICSW). She has worked as a school-based therapist, an in-home therapist, and as part of a school-based social work team supporting families with truancy and basic needs. Laura understands that factors like family dynamics, community resources, and larger systems can influence how we feel and live our lives. She helps clients learn to navigate environmental influences by creating autonomy and space for increased emotional well-being. Laura’s practice is culturally, gender, and neurodiversity-affirming.
Laura works mainly with children, and also enjoys working with adults, and pregnant or postpartum mothers who are looking for support with mental health and adjusting to life phases. She creates a welcoming, comfortable space where clients can feel safe to express themselves. Laura values collaboration and feedback in therapy, using the client’s intrinsic motivations to connect with their inner values, passions, and personal aspirations. She and clients will work through challenges together and deepen self-awareness. For children, Laura uses play to help kids express themselves naturally and explore their feelings at their own pace. She appreciates building the caregiver-child relationship through methods including goal-setting, mutual understanding, and healthy attachment. Laura’s approach blends Person-Centered and Child-Centered principles with tools like Play Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) to customize her approach for individual needs.
